The Power of Asking

Dainon Haggard

How many opportunities do we miss out on in life, simply because we don’t ask? Maya Angelou said, “ask for what you want and be prepared to get it.”

One of the biggest reasons we fail to ask others for help is the fear of becoming a burden on someone else. Another reason we don’t ask is because we are afraid of being told, “no.”

Let me tell you now, you must get over these fears!

First, most people are inherently good. They like to help. Yes, we are all busy, but I believe most of us understand good karma. What goes around comes around. We all understand that at some point in our life, we will all need help from someone wiser, more capable, more skilled, more widely recognized, etc. And that is OK!

Second, what harm is there in being told no? All successful entrepreneurs and sales individuals know that every “no” gets you that much closer to a “yes.” Don’t let your fear of being told no keep you from asking.

My suggestion to you today, is to determine an area of your life where you could use some help. Maybe it’s in your career? Maybe you want a meeting with a prospect? Or you might need help moving some furniture. Whatever it may be, muster up the courage to ask for help. You’ll be surprised at the responses you get!
